Opening hours

Please note that the abbey will be closed all day on : 

  • Thursday, January 16, 2025. Reopening on Friday, January 17 at 9:30 am. 
  • Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Reopening on Wednesday, January 29 at 9:30 am. 

From May 1st to August 31st
9am - 7pm

From September 1st to April 30th
9:30am - 6pm

The abbey is closed on January 1, May 1 and December 25

Please note
Last entry allowed 1 hour before closing time.
Last group slot available on reservation 1.5 hours before closing time.
Last audioguide withdrawal 1.5 hours before closing time.

Minors must be accompanied by an adult to enter and visit the abbey. 
 

The village of Mont-Saint-Michel is a commune and therefore freely accessible without reservation, ticket or time constraint.

Access and transport

Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel

By car

From Saint-Malo : exit n° 2, D 155 and D 797 or N 176 towards Pontorson, then D 976. 
From Caen : exit n° 8, N 175 towards Rennes until Pontaubault, then D 43, D 75 and D 275 towards Le Mont-Saint-Michel.
The abbey is located at the top of the village of Mont-Saint-Michel.
Numerous parking lots are available. 
Pay parking (Consult the rates on the MSM public establishment website). 
Frequent free shuttles are available to access the Mont from the parking lots.

By train

The nearest train station is in Pontorson. 
There are many connections to get to Mont-Saint-Michel:

  • The NOMAD train : Paris-Montparnasse > Villedieu-les-Poêles then connection by bus
  • The TGV Paris-Montparnasse > Rennes then connection by bus
  • The TGV Paris-Montparnasse > Dol de Bretagne then connection to Pontorson, then to the Mont-Saint-Michel by bus
  • The NOMAD train : Paris Saint-Lazare > Caen, then TER Caen > Pontorson
  • The "Mont-Saint-Michel train" in summer : Paris-Montparnasse > Pontorson (NOMAD train) then connection by bus

By bus

Keolis Armor offers regular and direct bus connections from Rennes and Saint-Malo.
From Rennes, several return trips each day from the bus station. Possible connection with TGVs from Paris. 
From Saint-Malo, one return trip from the Esplanade Saint-Vincent (please check traffic days in advance).

By bike

Mont-Saint-Michel is accessible via four cycling routes:

  • The Véloscénie which links Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel
  • The Vélomaritime which links Caen to Mont-Saint-Michel
  • The VéloWestNormady which links the D-Day landing beaches to Mont-Saint-Michel
  • The Voie Verte (Green Way) which connects the Mont and Pontorson

Bicycle racks have been set up at the Fanils (entrance on the left). The number of places is very limited. 
The parking P9 is reserved for two wheels.

Services and conditions of visit

The abbey is located at the top of the village of Mont-Saint-Michel.
Because of its location at the top of the rock and the large number of steps, the site is difficult to access for PRM and strollers. 
Depending on the number of visitors, it takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to walk from the parking lots to the entrance of the abbey.

In the monument :

  • The entrance ticket to the monument gives access to all the areas open to visitors, including temporary exhibitions
  • As part of the Vigipirate plan, security gates are installed at the entrance to the abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel and all access is preceded by a visual search of bags
  • Due to its location at the top of the rock and the important number of steps, access to the abbey requires a good physical and health condition. The monument is difficult to access for persons with reduced mobility, people with certain diseases and strollers (please fold them before accessing the abbey).
  • Access to the abbey is not allowed with suitcases or large bags. Smaller bags (smaller than the cabin size) are accepted.
  • The monument does not accept any luggage for storage
  • Folded strollers are allowed in the monument
  • There are many steps on the tour
  • Pets are not allowed, even in a carry-on bag
  • Knives and scooters are not allowed
  • Smoking and eating are not permitted in the monument
  • Some outdoor areas may be closed in case of bad weather
  • Free sanitary facilities at the beginning and in the middle of the tour, equipped with changing tables
     
  • A bookshop is available with or without an entrance ticket
